Building a Press Stand

I started building my press stand with wooden columns my wife found on kjiji. They had already been cut in half, so I trimmed the ends off to remove a bit of rot and even up the lengths. They might still be a bit long, but I figure I’ll set the press up and print for a bit before I cut the columns any more.
I planned on building the horizontal supports for the columns using wood salvaged from pallets. I had visions of mortise and tenon joints and other fancy woodwork. The columns are a softwood and a bit old and punky. So instead I just screwed in some 2×4’s I recycled from my shed.
