Always Document Your Work

I was looking for paper to do some monoprints, I opened up one of my sketchbooks and there I found this print. The problem of course is that I have no recollection of creating it – yet  I know I did. I didn’t date it, title it or sign it. Bad practice, very unprofessional.

Sketch I did for #drawingaugust of the same scene – Peck Lake Algonquin Park The monoprint is from the right hand side of the drawing – reversed.

My first (failed) attempt to make this print can be seen on my Morgan Write-A-Sign-press

Revisited the image again and did another monoprint October 22 2016

Trying a Monoprint on my Morgan Write-A-Sign

I recently acquired two Morgan presses and some miscellaneous sign creating stuff. Not sure what I’m going to do with them as they are not type-high standard. Anyone need any small signs printed up?

Just a little experiment. I tried to create a monoprint using etching ink and no medium.

First I did a pencil sketch on newsprint.

Nude Female – Initial Sketch 2013-04-30

As I was inking the plate I should have realized that I needed to thin the ink with medium. The ink wasn’t rolling onto the plate evenly, leaving blotches that wouldn’t roll out. I was curious as to how it would look so I pulled the print anyway.

The finished print is interesting, but I think next time I’ll have to try thinning the ink a little. Just so it doesn’t blotch up again.
